“The Davy” Inspires Wonder through Outdoor Education

The Davy McClure Outdoor Education Center in Ashland, Ohio is now open! The team at Return Polymers is so proud to have played a part in its completion.

“The Davy” honors the life and legacy of David “Davy” McClure, who passed away in 2020. Davy was an Ashland City Schools bus driver and former parks commissioner with a passion for the outdoors. The center will carry on his legacy by offering experiential learning opportunities in nature for students and adults alike.

Return Polymers donated 24,447 pounds of material for use in the construction project and recycled 1,900 pounds of PVC scrap following the job’s completion. 

Just over a year ago, construction began on “The Davy” with a groundbreaking May 7, 2024. The center held a special ribbon cutting ceremony on May 13, 2025 with Andy McClure, Davy’s father, cutting the ribbon at the dedication. Over 100 people attended the grand opening.

The 3,200 square foot facility is already in use by area school districts and elementary school students, who will all benefit from the exposure to outdoor learning, which cultivates wonder and appreciation for our shared natural environment. The center overlooks 80 acres of greenspace at Tom Kruse Park, the perfect setting for outdoor exploration. 

It was a dream of Davy’s to be able to offer more opportunities to students to grow their love of nature, and now that dream is coming true.
